Simulation replay pages
Replay pages for the 8 simulators in plimsoll's sim image: each runs a failing and a passing hand-written controller through the sandbox and shows both trajectories and their fingerprints. Each picture is the first chart of its page: the draft controller in blue, the accepted one in orange, hard limits in red. Each simulator represents a system being controlled and is compiled from C to WebAssembly; the scoring programs and most controllers are not published, and each page says what of its environment is.
- Black hole station-keepingHold a probe on a circular orbit inside a black hole's innermost stable orbit, with two small thrusters, under general relativity.Scenario s1: hold r = 5 gravitational radii (inside the innermost stable circular orbit at 6) after an outward kick of 0.02 c, thrust limit 0.02.
- Buck converterSet a power converter's duty cycle to hold 5 V through a sudden load step without overcurrent.Scenario s1: 12 V in, 4 ohm load halving to 2 ohm at 10 ms. Target 5 V.
- Cart-pole swing-upPush a cart to swing a hanging pole upright and balance it there.Scenario s1: pole hanging at 180 degrees, half-length 0.5 m, cart mass 1.0 kg, force clamped to 20 N.
- Double slitSet sixteen phase plates so the diffraction pattern on a screen matches a target, through a hidden defect in the mask.Scenario s1: one peak ordered 60 wavelengths off axis; a hidden phase defect of up to 1.5 rad per cell.
- Satellite clockSteer a navigation satellite's clock, which relativity runs 38.6 microseconds a day fast, using ground measurements that arrive late.Scenario s1: eccentricity 0.02, oscillator offset 1e-10, ground measurements 600 s late. One day.
- Ship headingSteer a ship with a slow, rate-limited rudder onto an ordered course, in waves, without overshooting.Scenario s1: Nomoto gain 0.2 per second, time constant 20 s, light waves. Ordered course 30 degrees to starboard.
- Shower with flow and stored waterIndependent hot and cold valves flush their own supply pipes, then mix into one outlet pipe. Closing both stops transport; a cold-pressure drop changes both flow and temperature.Scenario s1: hot-pipe volume 0.3 L, hot supply 60 C, cold-pressure drop at 40 s. Simplified plumbing, not calibrated to an installed shower.
- Twin paradox rocketFly out and back at relativistic speed so Earth's clock reads the ordered date on arrival, on a fixed fuel budget.Scenario s1: be home when Earth's clock reads 40 years, with a 1 g engine and a tank of 14 units of rapidity.
